Prior to law school, Devan worked in California’s regional center system for more than six years. In that time, she saw the clear disparity in education for children with disabilities and spent the vast majority of her time assisting her clients in special education matters. It was this experience that drove the decision to attend law school for the express purpose of practicing special education and disability rights law. During her time in law school, Devan represented children and their families in special education legal matters as a law clerk for the Learning Rights Law Center (LRLC), Public Counsel, the Children’s Rights Clinic at Southwestern Law School, and in private practice. Devan also previously worked for the South Carolina Department of Education addressing statewide compliance concerns under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Devan’s commitment and passion for special education and disability rights law stems from her own family’s experience. She has a younger sister with a disability and has seen the challenges across several state systems personally.
Devan graduated in 2003 from Boston University with a BA in Political Science and a minor in History. She graduated from Southwestern Law School in 2016 and is a member of both the California and South Carolina State Bar Associations.
